"MLM" - Multi Level Marketing is a type of network marketing. This business arrangement which combines direct marketing with franchising. There are lots of "for" and "against" arguments against MLM. Some experts feel it is just another scam others claim it as one of the best opportunities for people to earn money at their own convenience. There are lots of sites which talk about pros and cons of MLM.

Basically "MLM" is a kind of setup where in individual is affiliated with parent companies to sell their products for a commission. Here individuals are independent contractors. They are not employees of the company. They are paid for the sales they have made.

In a genuine "MLM" affiliates sells the products or services to end customers directly not to their subordinates. In this kind of good MLM companies normally there won't be subscription fee etc. There are several schemes in Multi Level Marketing like Uni-level or stair step, breakaway plan, base shop overrides, generational overrides, executive bonuses, matrix plans, binary plans etc.

Because of some illegal companies floating Ponzi and illegal pyramid scheme of Multi Level Marketing the name has been spoiled. Actually genuine MLM offers very good opportunities for individuals to earn income. But because of few bad elements MLM image has been tarnished. Sometimes it is very difficult to differentiate between legal and illegal MLMs.

Several hundred thousand people have become Amway affiliates and made good profit. This is a classic example of legitimate MLM Company. Even they had problems settling a case for selling their instructional and motivational materials to their affiliates.

But they fought it in court and emerged victorious. Now many MLM companies take Amway's business model as a role model to run their business.

There are some fraudulent MLMs who will force you to buy their product and don't help you in any way to sell. The products with this kind of companies will be very expensive and not value for money. Generally you will end up with dead stock and loose your money. You should be careful about these fraudulent Multi Level Marketing companies. They are simply illegal.

Most of the experts who criticize the MLMs, have found the companies that are more interested in collecting subscription fee by enrolling new members than selling their products. But if you find the right MLM then it can be a very prosperous business opportunity.

Just to distance themselves from illegal MLMs these companies title their programs affiliate marketing or home based business franchising. No doubt it is a booming business today spread around the globe.

In my opinion I do not wish to make profit by forcing or taking advantage of obligation of friends and relatives to sell the MLM product. They sometimes buy these things only because of obligation not because of need.
