Click Fraud

"Click fraud" is a cleverly designed internet scam that is a rapidly flourishing on the internet. It occurs without letting victims know that they are deceived. Click fraud is usually part of pay per click online advertising is also termed as ppc click fraud or pay per click fraud.

Pay per click advertising or ppc advertising is a type of internet marketing in which the advertising web owners display clickable links from advertisers, in lieu of a commission paid per click.

Click fraud involves advertising network affiliates forcing paid views or clicks to ads on their own websites via Spyware. Click fraudsters are usually pay per click online advertising affiliates and they use an automated script or computer program that imitates a legitimate user of a web browser clicking on an ad.

The purpose of this is to induce generating an improper charge per click. The main objective of their scheme is to get maximum commission on the cost-per-click that they generate artificially. Pay per click advertising networks are the major beneficiaries of Click fraud.

Click fraud was designed by a notorious and quite ingenious programmer. Click fraud programmers are brilliant and quite crafty minded guys. In California 2004 a man created a software program which he claimed could let spammers defraud Google out of millions of dollars in fraudulent clicks.

The man was later arrested for trying to blackmail Google for $150,000 to hand over the program. Click fraud can be as simple as one person starting a small web site and becoming a publisher of ads.

Click fraud is a serious cyber-crime. Using the internet to commit such types of scams or frauds is a felony in many jurisdictions. The Penal code 502 in California and the United Kingdom Computer Misuse Act 1990 covers such cyber crimes.
