I found this out *Very* accidentally last year. I've always hated going to the dentist because of that dumb chair, the "chairside manner", of the hygenist, how they lay you down flat and then try to drown you, and how they don't let you spit any more because it's not sanitary.
Here's what I found out:
About a month before my appointment, before I brush at night, I put a little baking soda on my teeth and then some peroxide on my toothbrush. I brush very gently until I can feel the tingly sensation. I leave on for a couple of minutes, then rinse. When the day of my appointment arrived, the hygenist hardly had to touch me because it did something to loosen the tartar. That was good because I hate the taste of blood and all that pain to get it off. The taste I hate worse is peroxide and latex rubber. Maybe if I keep this up, I won't have to go at all this year.
WARNING: Do not try this if you already have periodontal disease or any other problem.
I've haven't had any cavities yet (I'm 32 years old! knock wood!) because my saliva is alkaline based and my parents had the common sense to make sure I had a healthy diet growing up (God bless 'em!). When I *do* drink colas, I drink only the clear ones and drink lots of water. That helps keep plaque and tartar from forming. |
