Phishing Scams

Phishing scams have become very popular lately,  people who are online want to extract more and more information about phishing scam and want to know what phishing is. This encouraged me to write this article on phishing.

The word "phishing" derives from the word "fishing" and is a computing technology word. What it means cornering users into the vast internet to extract financial information and passwords by using refined ways.

The word web phishing definition is "The luring of an internet user to reveal personal details (like passwords and credit card information) on a fake web page or email form pretending to come from a legitimate companyyyy

They use email or instant messengers to commit the internet crime. By means of Social Engineering techniques and pretending as a reliable person these scammers cunningly obtain personal information like credit card details, passwords etc. and execute the phishing scam.

Phishing scammers have targeted online banking systems, customers of online bank and online payment systems.

Around a $929 million loss was suffered by nearly 1.2 millionion U.S businesses sustain a loss of about $2 billion per yearear

Agencies are now forced to take it into deep consideration before for implementing an anti-phishing solution. The phishing attacks are increasing every day. On 26th January 2004 The U.S. FTC (Federal Trade Commission) filed a case against the “supposed to be" phisher.

On March 1, 2005 Patrick Leahy, a Democrat Senator of United States established Anti-Phishing Act of 2005. The bill was passed, this law states that all criminals who created fake websites and who used dummy emails to cheat consumers will be fine of $250,000 and 5 years imprisonment.

The agencies throughout the world will have to launch the Anti-Phishing movement though there are many Anti-Phishing tools and software available.
